Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education to begin August 2018.
Expected duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting research, and providing service to the department, university and profession. Other duties include curriculum revision, advising students, and supervising graduate research.
This position has the potential to be part of a cluster hire of faculty in The College of Education, Health and Society for successful diverse candidates whose research, teaching and/or service connect to a theme of promoting Socially Just Communities (e.g., participatory community research, mutually beneficial university-community partnerships including community engagement, service learning, and collaborations with clinical/practice courses/training) consistent with our initiative for Community Justice and Well-being.
(a) Earned doctorate in education with an emphasis in teaching and research. ABDs will be considered, but the doctoral degree must be completed by the time of appointment; (b) An emerging high quality research agenda as evidenced by multiple scholarly manuscripts or articles that have a connected focus; (c) Three or more years of teaching experience in grades preK-5 or equivalent settings; (d) Experience working with diverse student populations (e.g., students from racial, ethnic, linguistic, socio-economic diversity; English language learners; and/or students with special abilities).
Consideration will be given to those with (a) Experience in developing and teaching critical literacies and pedagogy in early childhood/elementary education or related field; (b) Experience in interpreting and implementing state mandated standards; (c) Integration of culturally relevant curricula and pedagogy for diverse student populations; (d) Ability to integrate social justice in curriculum; (e) Ability to contribute to departmental initiatives, such as teaching in urban/diverse school settings, working with English language learners, and integrating innovative digital technology in the classroom; (f) Experience in teaching about equity and social justice and developing critical curricula; and/or (g) Experience with school and community partnerships.
