ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (TENURE-TRACK)

The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN is seeking applications for an assistant rank tenure-track faculty position. Primary criteria are excellence in research and in teaching, and candidates from all areas of specialization are encouraged to apply. A PhD, obtained by August 1, 2024, in Human Development and Family Science, Education, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or a related field is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, conducting, and publishing research, including procuring internal and external funding; teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in HDFS; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; and engaging in service at the campus, community, state, and/or national level. We are seeking a faculty member with a strong research program capable of attracting external funding. The position is an academic year appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2024.

Human Development and Family Science is a multi-disciplinary department located in the College of Health and Human Sciences. With 22 tenure track and 7 clinical faculty members, the Department affords many opportunities to develop interdisciplinary collaborative research. Current research foci in the department include early childhood education and policy, diverse family systems, biological underpinnings of normative and non-normative development and health, advanced methodology, health & well-being, interpersonal relations, military families, cross-cultural development, health disparities, as well as research focused on Latinx, Multiracial, Asian American, and Black youth and families. HDFS faculty are involved in a wide range of cross-campus initiatives including the HHS Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Science Consortium, the Center for Aging and the Life Course, Advanced Methods at Purdue, the Purdue Autism Research Center, the Women’s Global Health Institute, and the Purdue Policy Research Institute.

HDFS maintains spacious and well-equipped research facilities and centers, including the Ben & Maxine Miller Laboratory Preschool, the Military Family Research Institute, Cooperative Extension, the Center for Families, and the Center for Early Learning. HDFS also has a particularly strong relationship with the new Department of Public Health where several faculty members are faculty associates with key roles in the Master’s and Ph.D. program. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to capitalize on an extraordinary network of collaborations and resources that include strong support for interdisciplinary and translational research.
