National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators

Summer Award Criteria

The available Summer grants are:

The NAECTE Foundation Summer Doctoral Research Grant, Sponsored by Learning Genie, Inc.
One of the goals of the NAECTE Foundation is to promote and support promising scholarship related to early childhood teacher education. As a means of promoting the growth of leadership and scholarship in the field, NAECTE-F seeks to assist doctoral students in completing dissertation research that enriches the field by addressing critical issues and/or innovative practice. As an extra incentive and added recognition, the NAECTE Foundation is offering a $1,000 grant, sponsored by Learning Genie, Inc. plus doctoral student membership in NAECTE to encourage doctoral students to conduct research that has implications for early childhood teacher education or early childhood professional development. The award funds are to be used to support data collection and completion of the dissertation. In addition to a vita, title page, prospectus, and budget, the application must include a brief statement of endorsement from any current member of the National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators who is a committee member or chair on a doctoral committee. The applicant must have passed the comprehensive/graduate exam and has an approved prospectus with a focus on early childhood teacher education. The prospectus should demonstrate high promise as a scholarly contribution. An acknowledgement of the grant donor, Learning Genie Inc., must be included in the dissertation.

The award will be paid in full at the time of the NAECTE summer virtual conference. Upon completion of the dissertation, the recipient is expected to submit a proposal for presentation of the research at an NAECTE conference, or to submit the manuscript for publication in JECTE. The grant recipient will send the NAECTE-F President an annual written progress report by June 1 of the following year and each June 1 until the research is complete. The recipient will also agree to list the grant awarded, including the sponsoring company, whenever they publish the data or present the study.

Applicants must be focused on research in early childhood teacher education or early childhood professional development and must:

  • be evidence-based (both rationale and data collection),
  • contribute to issues and/or innovations in early childhood teacher education, and
  • demonstrate scholarly promise of making an impact in early childhood teacher education
  • for more information, see The NAECTE Foundation Doctoral Grant Rubric.

Applications will consist of:

  1. a curricular vita or resume,
  2. a title page with the title of the prospectus, the student’s name and contact information,
  3. a budget detailing the use of the funds for data collection,
  4. a four-page, approved prospectus that includes: the research questions(s) and focus, the rationale for the research, methods of research, how this research addresses issues and innovations in early childhood teacher education or early childhood professional development, and a projected timeline,
